Timber Industry Welcomes Moves to Boost Construction Sector

Press Release September 6th 2012

The Timber Industry has welcomed the Government’s moves to ease restrictions and kickstart stalled projects in the construction sector.

John White, Chief Executive of the Timber Trade Federation said: “Easing the rules over extensions to housing and expansion of shops and offices could provide a much-needed shot in the arm for the building industry. They are also key markets for timber frame construction and other timber products. We need to get the economy moving again. The construction sector –and the timber industry in particular – is key to helping achieve that.”

However, he added that the construction sector needs more than these small measures:

“We’d like to remind the government that the timber construction industry is vital to achieving a low-cost, low-carbon built environment throughout the country. We are ready for the scale of the challenge, but need greater Government action to achieve it.”
