Timber Dimensions

Wood is such a versatile material it can be processed or engineered to exactly the right dimensions for your project. This may be achieved by processing on site or by choosing from the wide range of stock sizes available from your wood supplier.

As an example solid wood is often available in the sawn sizes in table 1 below, or processed to a smooth finish and available in the machined sizes in table 2, but remember these are just examples and many other sizes may be available so speak to your local supplier. The commonly available lengths are given in table 3.

To suit larger dimensions wood can be laminated or engineered into a range of products such as wood based panels, Gluelam, I-beams, and many other strong thermally efficient materials. For information about sizes and specifications of such products use our “Find a Product” facility to locate a supplier in your area.

Timber and Wood Based Products are internationally traded items, which means they may be produced to metric or imperial standards. For instance Panel Products from North America and the Far East are normally produced to an imperial size of 8' x 4' and sold on the UK market as 2440mm x 1220mm.
