Forests and forestry are dependant not only on biological, geographical and climatic factors but also on national forest laws and regulations, pattern of land ownership and their own individual approach to environmental, economic and social issues. They lead to very different impacts on forests.
Today’s global challenge is to achieve sustainable forest management. Central to this is to provide local people with long-term benefits from their forests. To see the Timber Trade Federation’s contributions to such efforts, e.g. recent initiatives that involve NGOs, Governments and the Private Sector, visit www.forestsforever.org.uk or www.ttf.co.uk/forests/responsible/.
The Timber Trade Federation is currently working on information profiles of major supplying countries into the UK. Those profiles shall provide a clear picture of Forest Management practices within supplying countries and the overall forest industries’ environment. They shall furthermore promote progressive initiatives that strengthen Sustainable Forest Management.
