TTF Appoint New Head of Environmental Affairs

Dr Penelope Bienz has been appointed as Head of Environmental Affairs of the Timber Trade Federation. Penny was previously Forestry & Timber Projects Officer with Powys County Council. She is a graduate of De Montfort University (B.Sc Business Studies & Engineering) and the University of Wales (M.Sc Forest Industries Technology and Ph.d in wood science).

Penny will concentrate on developing the successful Forests Forever campaign, which provides advice to architects, specifiers and local authorities and provides its members with expertise on certification, life cycle analysis and waste management.
Penny said of her appointment, “ I am looking forward to taking the work of Forests Forever forward, to meet the varied challenges facing the industry.”

Paul Martin TTF Director-General said, “ We are delighted that someone of Penny’s calibre has joined us, further strengthening an already capable team.”

TTF Respond To ITC Judgement

The Timber Trade Federation has received a judgement from the Independent Television Commission regarding the TTF's complaint over a Nikon camera TV advertisement.

The TTF lodged a complaint with the ITC last November over the advertisement, which contained an image of a timber yard and the caption the " The World's Last Rainforest. "

The TTF believe that this is unfairly damaging to the UK timber- importing sector, which is committed to sourcing its timber from legal and well-managed sources.

The ITC judgement that there appears to have been no intention to comment on the UK importing sector appears to be extraordinary in light of the advertisement. We will requesting the ITC to re-examine the judgement.
