TTF Host Indonesia Trade Meeting
The Timber Trade Federation hosted a meeting between officials from the Department of International Development and the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and a delegation representing the UK/Indonesian timber trade (Wednesday 6 March 2002). The meeting discussed ways in which the UK importing trade could assist in fighting illegal logging and other related forest criminal activity. This followed an agreement by the Federation with International Development Minister Hillary Benn MP to progress the Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) Conference agenda held last September in Bali. The UK and Indonesian Government are collaborating together over implementing FLEG and the Timber Trade Federation are making a positive contribution to this on-going process.
TTF Contribute to UCBD Discussions
The Timber Trade Federation took part in discussions with the European Hardwood Association (UCBD) in Brussels (12 March 2002) regarding the UCBD's position on illegal logging and forest law enforcement prior to the Convention on Biological Diversity in the Hague ( 7-9 April 2002). The Timber Trade Federation unreservedly condemns illegal logging and its members are committed to sourcing their timber from legal and well-managed forests. The Federation is committed to working with suppliers and other stakeholders for the complete elimination of illegal logging practices wherever they occur.
