Timber Trade Federation Hosts Media Meeting
18 August 2003

The Timber Trade Federation has hosted a roundtable discussion (Monday 18 August 2003) with TTF members and other interested parties to discuss the portrayal of the trade in the media and the trade’s ability to react rapidly to unfolding news stories.

A variety of initiatives were discussed including the setting up of team of industry representatives to provide the media with expert comment and the need to develop policy statements on key issues.

TTF spokesman, Mark O’Brien said, “ "The Federation’s ability to respond to publicity generated by some NGOs has been helped enormously with initiatives like the Code of Conduct, the Indonesian Action Plan and the Environmental Purchasing Policy. These have helped the trade respond positively, demonstrating its full engagement with the sustainability agenda.

Added to these, the wood.for good campaign, which is supported and funded by the Timber Trade Federation, has done an enormous amount of work through advertising, public relations and education promoting the positive case for timber."

Among those attending the meeting were John Tong, TTF Vice President, British Woodworking Federation Director, Richard Lambert, Wood Panel Industries Federation Director-General, Alistair Kerr, UK Forest Products Association Executive Director, David Sulman and John Fletcher of wood.for good.
